The Aquaponics System is the primary food-production and nutrient-cycling system for Project: Flamenco. It combines aquaculture (raising fish) with hydroponics (growing plants in water).

System Role

1. Food Production: Grows both fish and a wide variety of plants and herbs. 2. Nutrient Source: The nutrient-rich water from the fish tanks is the primary "fertilizer" for the biowall and the aquaponic "rivers." 3. Water Filtration: The plants and biowall, in turn, filter the water, which is then returned clean to the fish.

Key Components

  • Main Tanks: Located in the greenhouses, housing the main fish population (e.g., Tilapia).
  • Aquaponic "Rivers": Long troughs located in the shadehouse "moat" for growing vining plants, herbs, and lettuces.
  • Thermal Regulation: The system is heated in winter by the Heat Recovery System and cooled in summer via a loop to the Central Thermal Battery.
